• Find Out Your Key Type: You could have a newer Chrome SmartKey® or an older SmartKey®. Depending on the key type, replacing the batteries will be slightly different. 
• Get the Right Batteries: You need one CR 2025 battery for the newer Chrome SmartKey®. You need two for the older SmartKey®.
• Replacing Batteries in the Older SmartKey®: Pull the latch at the end of the key holder, push your key horizontally into the open slot, and then lift the battery out of the compartment. 
• Replacing Batteries in the Newer Chrome SmartKey®: Pull the tab at the bottom, remove the cover by pushing the key into the narrow end of the slot then place the battery inside.
